We are a team of professionals (in psychotherapy, psychology anthropology, education and sex education) dedicated to promoting affective wellbeing and sexual health. Indeed, we firmly believe that loving ourselves, loving others and being loved are universal rights and that “the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives” (Esther Perel 2007).

At LoveLife, we work by accompanying people in developing awareness of and respect for their feelings and bodies, as well as in their relationships with others. The psycho-educational interventions we carry out use movement, creativity, music and play as mediators of empowerment and personal growth, according to the models of Gestalt psychotherapy, peer2peer education, Kolb’s experiential learning cycle, with a focus on emotional and somatic intelligence. We design ad hoc pathways based on the needs and questions of those who come to us.

We deal primarily with youth and adults with intellectual disability (e.g., Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome) and atypical development (e.g., autism spectrum disorders, Rett syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified); as well as others who face obstacles in affective and sexual well-being due to pathologies and health issues, such as women with endometriosis and vulvodynia.

In addition, LoveLife acts in accordance with the respect and guidance on affective and sexual well-being and health of: World Association for Sexual Health (WAS), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations (UN), European Commission (EC).

Through our projects, at LoveLife, we address:

– Affective and sexual empowerment of or clients,

– Support for caregivers (family members and professionals),

– Nurturing a support network among families,

– Collaboration with the community and institutions for community awareness.

  • Sexual and affective empowerment of users,

Promoting awareness and autonomy of people, enabling them to explore and understand their sexuality and affectivity in a safe and respectful environment, through individual clinical or group psychoeducational interventions. This is so that it increases their quality of life.

  • Support for family members and professionals in the field.

Offer information and psychoeducational sessions for family members and youth workers, raising awareness and sharing expertise on how to respond to the affective and sexual needs of the people they care for and providing practical tools to support them, with respect for modesty and sociality.

  • Creating a support network.

Fostering the creation of a support network among participants, encouraging the exchange of experiences and the sharing of useful resources for dealing with challenges related to sexuality and affectivity. This is why we also engage in workshops for whole families as well as beneficiaries.

  • Collaboration with communities and institutions.

Involve the community and local institutions, as well as organizations involved in the educational and community care process, seeking to raise awareness and encourage them to implement inclusive policies that respect the affectivity and sexuality of all people.

LoveLife APS was founded by Prof. Stefano Federici (PhD psychologist, professor of General Psychology and Psychology of Disability at the University of Perugia) and Dr. Rosella De Leonibus (psychotherapist, lecturer, and author) with the mission of supporting people with disabilities in their emotional and sexual well-being. They recognized a gap in services available to families and a strong need to address this lack. They gathered a team of professionals with diverse personal, educational, and professional expertise who, with dedication and commitment, make LoveLife more effective, functional, and impactful every day.

Currently, the board is composed of Dr. Maria Elena Rossler (psychologist and psychotherapist – responsible for training), Dr. Elena A. Russo (PhD anthropologist, senior experiential learning trainer, and sex educator – responsible for projects), Dr. Lorenzo Conigli (psychologist specialized in disability and sexuality), and Dr. Dimitri Boriosi (psychologist and play-based operator in psychoeducational contexts).

We also have very active members, numerous volunteers, and external collaborators, including Dr. Alessandro Tosti (psychologist specialized in psychodiagnostics and Gestalt psychotherapy trainee), Dr. Nadia Cherli (gynecologist), Dr. Piero Labate (biologist, PhD in medicine, psychology intern), and Dr. Chiara Paolacci (psychologist).

In collaboration with the University of Perugia, we host internship experiences for students and trainees. We would like to acknowledge psychology PhD candidates and students Giada Budassi, Vittorio Rapillo, Enrico Pezzella, Nicola Boccolini, Filippo Biasetti, and Gabriele Claps.

We also collaborate with organizations active in raising community awareness on topics of intimacy and sexuality (Centro UP and Vù Festival – Perugia) and disability (Angsa Umbria, La Semente – Perugia, Capodarco – Perugia, Centro&Cuore21 – Rimini, Crescere Insieme – Rimini, Batti Cinque – Republic of San Marino), as well as health (Comitato Artemisia, AFAS Pharmacies, Festival of Psychology).

With gratitude, we have established relationships with several institutions, including the Order of Psychologists of Umbria, the Order of Biologists of Umbria and Tuscany, and the local health authorities of Perugia, Spoleto, Città di Castello, and Rimini. We are also privileged to have received donations from the Marconi Foundation and the Lions Club to support the development of our programs, as well as collaborations with local organizations for the sustainable implementation of successful psychoeducational projects (Fattoria del Quondam and Dimora La Quercia – Giano).

Additionally, we have been active in local schools (Ecipa Futuro – Perugia, Comprehensive Institute – Giano dell’Umbria-Bastardo) and have benefited from the support of local organizations dedicated to personal development and training (Qui – Perugia) and to health and well-being dissemination (Medicina&Cure – Perugia).
